When Dr. Mara Ness's experimental anesthetic, Etheron, begins restoring memories in returning combat veterans, she suspects an unexpected effect of the drug. But her patients' fragmented recollections point to classified facilities, covert operations, and a program designed to suppress experiences the military wants buried.
As the memories grow more specific, Mara's research attracts the attention of people determined to control what comes back. The institution supporting her work may also be hiding its purpose. Caught between her duty to patients and the powerful interests behind the program, Mara must decide how far she will go to uncover the truth—and what exposing it could cost.
